Kings River Knight: Ready for Open Graded Stakes

Six year old gelding for John Sadler stepped into open company on Saturday in a 2nd allowance condition race at a mile on the turf for older runners. Off as the 3/5 choice in a field of 7. He came out running under J.J. and had a two length lead coming out of the clubhouse turn with moderate fractions of 23.47 and 47.85 for the half. He maintained that lead till the ¼ pole when the stretch runners started to unwind, but he had another gear at the 1/8 pole and went on to win by three at the wire. He ran the final quarter in a sparkling 23.15 on a course still with plenty of moisture in it. This was his 9th win in just 15 trips to the post and his 1st start out of Cal bred stakes in 8 races. He is now 4 for 4 at a mile on the turf and 6 for 6 with J.J. in the irons. He is ready for open graded stakes at this point in his career and Sadler may give him a shot at that in the near future. If J.J. rides him back, he’ll get the money no matter where he is placed.
