Keen to Go: Can Break Maiden If Keep In For Tag, Turf or Dirt

Three year old colt for Doug O’Neill had a bit of bad luck on Saturday in this $50,000 maiden claimer for sophomores at 9 furlongs on the main. Off at 2/1 in a field of 8 in a race taken off the grass, he broke from the extreme outside and wasn’t quite ready to go when they sprung the latch. He broke slowly and didn’t have enough speed to get over, thereby going six wide into the clubhouse turn. He stayed six wide all the way down the back side, made a move at the leaders at the ¼ pole, then slugged it out down the lane to miss by a half at the wire. With the extremely wide trip, he was best today. He can break his maiden if they keep him in for a tag, turf or dirt, in the very near future.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Keen to Go was cabable of.  We expected that if Keen to Go gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Keen to Go performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Keen to Go last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Keen to Go next start.  If Keen to Go appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Keen to Go will dominate the race.

Helpful Tip:  So that it’s easy for you to compare a horse’s past performance, Today’s Racing Digest’s Performance Figures for upcoming races are based on how we expect the horse to perform in that race regardless of any changes in race conditions.  Learn More:
