Johnny Paycheck: Can Beat This Kind Without Drop

Four year old gelding for Phil D’Amato tried to break his maiden in his 6th attempt on Friday at a mile on the turf for Cal bred straight maidens. After two late scratches, he was bet down to the even money favorite in a field of just five, but he lost all chance at the start when he stumbled badly and went to his knees but the rider still held on. Here was a speed horse who was away in last and trailed the field early. But he gradually made up the ground down the back side and Frey went after the leader at the 3/8 pole, and he stuck his head in front at the ¼ pole. But the bad start cost him in the end and he was out of gas in the stretch. He finished third beaten three and a half. This was his 3rd start off a layoff and he can beat this kind without dropping into a claimer. He just needs to get away cleanly. The top turf trainer on the circuit will find a winning spot. Be ready.
