Into Midnight: Ran Winning Race in His Debut and 4 Back to 3rd

Two year old colt for Bob Baffert made his debut on Saturday and drew the rail in this maiden special weight at five and a half on the main. Off at 12/1 in a field of 10, he broke a step slow and a bit awkwardly and was away in fifth, but quickly came up the rail to contend by the half mile pole. He dueled for the lead through very fast fractions of 21.36 and 44.46 for the half and the duo opened up four on the field. Smash It, the favorite in the race and “Midnight” fought it out the length of the stretch with the favorite gutting out the win by ¾ in his 4th career start. Into Midnight ran a winning race for his debut and it was four lengths back to the third. He’s a soon winner for the king of the juveniles here in California.
