Horace Mann: This One Sets Him Up Nicely for Del Mar

Three year old colt for Phil D’Amato, off since November of last year, re-surfaced in Saturday’s opener, a dash down the hill for the first allowance condition for sophomores. Off at 9/2 in a field of 7, he broke well from the outside and settled in 4th down the hill, four off the leaders. He was forced to move a bit early as the favorite came to him on the outside at the dirt crossover, got pinballed at the top of the lane to momentarily lose his momentum, then ran on well down the lane to get third beaten three at the wire. This one is a miler and this race sets him up perfectly for that trip and this condition down at Del Mar. Vasquez is his regular rider and he gets the money in his next trip to the post.
