Three year old colt for Bob Baffert, who had not been to the post since April, dropped into a 1st allowance condition race at ¾ on the main in the nightcap on Friday. Off as the wagering favorite at 8/5 in a field of just 7 runners, he broke running under leading rider J.J. and tracked the leader down the back side in quick fractions of 21.66 and 44.17 for the half. He went to the lead easily on his own just past the ¼ pole, then quickly opened up to win by five while geared down the final sixteenth. They paid $3.5 million for this son of Bernadini, but Baffert threw him to the wolves fairly early in his career and he has been largely a disappointment. But this was a strong performance and he is ready to start paying back some revenue on this large investment.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Hejazi was cabable of. We expected that if Hejazi gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Hejazi performance figures. Use the performance figures earned in Hejazi last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Hejazi next start. If Hejazi appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Hejazi will dominate the race.
