Heart of the Night: Should at Least Get a Mile and She’ll Be Hard To Hold Back

Three year old filly for Mike McCarthy made start #2 in Saturday’s opener and first since last August in this maiden special weight event at five and a half on the turf. She was bumped around at the start, but was challenging for the lead by the half mile pole, through awfully quick fractions of 21.35 and 43.82 on a good turf course. She stuck her head in front at the 1/8 pole, dug in gamely for the final furlong, but got tagged late right on the wire to lose by a half. She galloped out strong just past the wire. It was a strong race and one that she probably needed. This New York bred should at least get a mile and she’ll be hard to hold in her next start, regardless of the distance.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Heart of the Night was cabable of.  We expected that if Heart of the Night gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Heart of the Night performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Heart of the Night last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Heart of the Night next start.  If Heart of the Night appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Heart of the Night will dominate the race.
