Harlocap: Early Trouble But Huge Performance for Solid Barn with Young Horses

Newly turned three year old colt for Bob Baffert had a ton of trouble in Monday’s 9th, a mile race on the main track for sophomore maiden special weights. Off at 5/2 in a field of 9, he broke running from the 4 slot under Johnny V. and tried to make the lead into the 1st turn. But others in this race were quicker than him and he was cut off into the clubhouse turn and checked sharply giving up at least 3 lengths to the field. He regained his momentum and was sitting 4th coming out of the turn, then used a burst of speed to get the lead from the rail by the half mile pole. He opened up two at the 3/8 pole, extended that lead to three at the top of the lane, but you knew the early trouble would come back to haunt him late. Sure enough, his stable mate came flying late and he lost the race by just a half length at the wire. Considering the trouble he had early on, this was a huge performance in just his 2nd start. He wants two turns for sure and he’s a soon winner for a barn that excels with young horses.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Harlocap was cabable of.  We expected that if Harlocap gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Harlocap performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Harlocap last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Harlocap next start.  If Harlocap appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Harlocap will dominate the race.
