Gracie’s Big Day: Drew Rail and Broke Running only to get Pinned Taking The Worse Of a Fight For Lead

Three year old filly for Ron Ellis tried an optional starter allowance race for non winners twice at ¾ on the main Wednesday. Off at 7/1 in a field of 7, she unfortunately drew the rail and broke running with the bug boy Orantes. She was pinned on the rail fighting for the lead and took all the worst of it when there were 4 horses across the track at the half mile pole. Her and the favorite shook loose after that and it became a two horse race at the ¼ pole. Gracie hung in there the best she could but the 2 to 5 favorite finished her off rather easily by four. But it was a BIG 7 lengths back to the third horse. Gracie got Lasix for the 1st time in her 9 race career and she is good enough to knock out this condition. She wasn’t going to beat the winner today, but a better post would have made it much closer. Ellis is a solid trainer and has many options with this one as she is a Cal bred and this race was vs. OPEN runners. She is a good one to follow this winter at Santa Anita.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Gracie’s Big Day was cabable of.  We expected that if Gracie’s Big Day gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Gracie’s Big Day performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Gracie’s Big Day last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Gracie’s Big Day next start.  If Gracie’s Big Day appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Gracie’s Big Day will dominate the race.

Helpful Tip:  So that it’s easy for you to compare a horse’s past performance, Today’s Racing Digest’s Performance Figures for upcoming races are based on how we expect the horse to perform in that race regardless of any changes in race conditions.  Learn More:
