First Peace: Returning To Sprints Seems Ideal

Three year old colt for Mark Glatt might have found his hole card on Sunday when he tried the hill for the 1st time in the John Shear stakes for sophomores. Off at 4/1 in a field of 8 and a race loaded with early speed, he sat 4th early under Mike Smith and was about four lengths back coming down the hill. Smith kept him on the fence after the dirt crossover, and deftly found a seam on the rail. He burst through it and grabbed the lead at the 1/8 pole and then had enough left in the tank to hold off the late runners. He had been routing with some quality sophomores in earlier races and giving it up late, but returning to a sprint at this distance is ideal for him. He’ll get another shot at a graded stakes before this meet is over. Up the ladder for this Kentucky bred son of Funtastic.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe First Peace was cabable of.  We expected that if First Peace gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in First Peace performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in First Peace last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of First Peace next start.  If First Peace appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that First Peace will dominate the race.
