Eylara (IRE): Improving Nicely For D’Amato

Lightly raced five year old mare for Phil D’Amato, tried stakes company for the first time in her career, and didn’t fare too badly. Off at 7/2 in a field of 9 runners at 11 furlongs on the lawn for fillies and mares in the ungraded CTT/TOC stakes, she settled nicely for Rispoli well off the dawdling pace. She trailed the field down the back side about 8 lengths off the pace and the internal fractions were extremely slow. Nonetheless, she was roused at the ¼ pole for her move, circled the field on the outside along with the shipper, Sister Otoole, and ran steadily down the lane to garner second, beaten a length and a half at the wire. This was just her second start for D’Amato and she has improved nicely since entering his barn. She still has the 2nd allowance condition available and she is good anywhere from 9 to 11 furlongs. She may even take a stab at the Grade 2 John Mabee stakes at 9 furlongs on Sept. 9. The key is retaining Rispoli who fits her like a glove. She has hit the board in 9 of 12 starts and this Irish bred is certainly worth following.
