Escape Artist: A Good Versatile Winner From 8 – 9 Furlongs

Three year old colt for Mike McCarthy made start #2 on Saturday at 9 furlongs on the grass in a maiden special weight. Off as the 5/2 choice in a field of 11, he broke well under Johnny V and laid 3rd into the clubhouse turn just 3 lengths back of the leaders. He stayed in that position down the back side on the fence, but the lonely front runner, who was his stable mate, was getting away at the ¼ pole. He went to a drive but couldn’t catch this 12/1 shot who wired the field. “Artist” never stopped trying and was a solid second and was four in front of the third horse. This son of the good sire Good Magic is a soon winner and is good anywhere from 8 to 9 furlongs.
