Dos Passos: Flew Late On the Rail And With Cleaner Trip Could Have Won

Four year old gelding for Bob Hess Jr. made just his 3rd career start and 1st in 15 months in Sunday’s 7th, a 1st allowance condition 5/8 turf sprint for 3 and up. Off at 46/1 under Kent Desormeaux, he was void of any early speed and was last early on down the back side about 7 back of the leaders. Kent kept him on the fence the entire trip in this 11 horse field and he made up a lot of ground late while trying to find a seam to get through. He flew late on the rail and with a cleaner trip he could have won. As it is, he finished third but was only beaten ¾ at the wire for all of it. He had trained well coming into the race and broke his maiden at first asking at a mile back east. He has a bundle of talent and he should adore the longer sprints up at Santa Anita, especially the six and a half coming down the hill. This son of the great sire Candy Ride is a soon winner.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Dos Passos was cabable of.  We expected that if Dos Passos gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Dos Passos performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Dos Passos last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Dos Passos next start.  If Dos Passos appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Dos Passos will dominate the race.
