Dick Best: Can Go Short Or Long With Lots of Options to Win at Del Mar

Five year old gelding for Librado Barocia made short work of his competition on Sunday in a first allowance condition for older Cal breds at a mile on the main track. Sent off at 9/2 in a field of 7, he was quickly hustled to the lead from the one hole and had a one length lead on the field coming out of the clubhouse turn. After a first quarter in 23.27 Frey got the gelding to relax a bit and still had the lead with a 47.06 half. He let out a notch at the ¼ pole and “Best” opened up to three on the field and coasted on home to win by six open lengths. This son of Stanford has won on the main track, on the turf, and on the synthetic up north, and he still has this condition available on the turf. Plus he can go short or long so Barocia has a lot of options for this one at Del Mar
