Dandy Man Shines (IRE): If Pace In Next Race Can Get it Done

Four year old gelding for Jeff Mullins was in for the 2nd allowance condition on Saturday at a flat mile on the turf, 3 and up. Off as the 8/5 choice in a field of six, he had very little chance today in a field totally void of any speed. As a stretch runner, “Dandy” is very pace dependent to be effective and there was just no pace to set up for his rally. The leaders crawled through fractions of 23.66 and 47.85 for the half and he did well to get into a photo for the place beaten just two at the wire. The winner went basically wire to wire and was the longest price in the six horse field. Although Dandy is only for 2 for 16 in his career, he is good enough to knock out this condition. He has won a restricted stakes and ran second in a Grade 3. A mile is his distance and he tries hard every time as his 11 for 16 in the money indicates. He’ll get another shot at Del Mar this summer and if there’s some pace in the race, he can get it done. Rispoli has ridden him in 13 straight races.
