Chismosa: Watch For Her in Cal Bred Stakes Where She’ll Be Tough To Beat

Hard knocking four year old filly for Rafael DeLeon tried the Grade 3 Santa Monica stakes on Saturday at 7 furlongs on the main for older fillies and mares. Off at 7/1 in a field of five, this Cal bred filly gives it her all every time to the post. She laid back early here in the back of the field some 8 lengths off the pace, started to pick it up at the 3/8 pole, then put in a good rally down the lane to get up for second beaten two and a half at the wire. The winner was a standout multiple stakes winner named Three Witches for trainer Mike McCarthy. Chismosa can handle turf or dirt and excels as a late running sprinter, but she wants no part of two turns. I see DeLeon bringing her back in a Cal bred stakes where she will be tough to beat. She has already won a Grade 3 in open company on New Year’s Day of this year.
