Broheim: Bred To Go Long On Turf Watch For JJ To Ride In Del Mar

Three year old ridgling for Mike McCarthy made start #2 in Saturday’s opener at six and a half on the turf in a maiden special weight for 3 and up. Off at 7/2 in a field of 8, he broke OK under J.J. and sat 4th on the rail down the back side, just two lengths off the leaders. J.J. kept him near the rail turning for home, was in tight quarters down the lane, but never stopped trying and just did get up for second right on the wire. He was only beaten a length for all of it by the even money favorite. The was just his 1st time on the turf and he is bred for it and bred to go long as well, so McCarthy has some options moving forward. He should be able to get his diploma down at Del Mar on the turf, and it will be a plus if J.J. rides him back.
