Book Smart: Made Every Pole a Winning One

Four year old gelding for Bob Hess Jr., who he just claimed five weeks ago, couldn’t be any sharper than he is right now. Entered for the 1st allowance condition for Cal breds on Sunday in a field of six, he was gunning for his 3rd straight victory at ¾ on the main. Off as the 3/2 choice, he made every pole a winning one today blitzing the field with fractions of 21.48 and 43.71 for the half. He had four on the field at the 3/8 pole, 4 on the field at the 1/8 pole, then eased on home to win by two in 1:08.92. There were some other speedballs in this field, but they just couldn’t keep up with this gelding, even though they were “sent” from the start. He can handle the lawn as well and with Cal breds, once you win the 1st condition allowance, you can enter for the same condition just by switching surfaces. They won’t catch him at 5/8 on the turf and Geovanni Franco handles him perfectly.
