Four year old gelding for Karen Headley showed a lot of moxie in breaking his maiden on Sunday against a strong band of runners. Off at 11/1 in a field of 7, he broke running under Aguilar and dueled for the lead into the clubhouse turn in this mile and a sixteenth venture for open special weight maidens. He sat just a length off the lead down the back side, stuck his nose in front at the top of the lane, but then was greeted by the favorite on his outside, who went right on by. Blue Dog looked like a dead dog at the 1/8 pole, but he found another gear, dove to the inside, and then won going away at the wire to win by a length and a half. It was a visually impressive race for this son of Carpe Diem who was making his 3rd start off a 13 month layoff. He can handle the 1st allowance condition.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Blue Dog was cabable of. We expected that if Blue Dog gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Blue Dog performance figures. Use the performance figures earned in Blue Dog last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Blue Dog next start. If Blue Dog appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Blue Dog will dominate the race.
