Always On Cay: Can Handle Either Surface But Seems To Favor Turf

Two year old colt for Bob Hess tried the 1st allowance condition in Saturday’s opener at 5/8 on the turf. Off at 10/1 in a field of six, he was void of any early speed and was away last ands fell 7 lengths off the pace at the 3/8 pole. Mike Smith got him rolling at the top of the lane, and he swung three wide to put in a good late run and almost got there. He ended up third but was only beaten a half at the wire, then had a nice gallop out. He should like the more elongated turf sprints up at Anita and should eventually get two turns as well. He can handle either surface but looks to favor the lawn at this point in his career. One to follow up at Arcadia.
