Admiralty Place (GB): Finished well to get 2nd While No Threat to Wire to Wire Winner

Five year old gelding for Mike McCarthy made his 1st start since July and just his 2nd in this country in Friday’s 1st, a maiden special weight at a mile on the turf for older runners. Off at 5/1 in a field of 9, he was pretty much void of any speed and was 8 back into the clubhouse turn. He was last down the back side and Franco kept him on the rail to save ground. He stayed on the fence turning for home, swung out at the 1/8 pole for room, and finished well to get second, though no threat to the wire to wire winner. With the rails 30 feet out and against the race shape to boost, plus the fact he was in need of the outing, it was a strong performance. It was two and a half back to the third horse. Although still a maiden, he ran some strong races overseas and he has hit the board in 7 out of 8 trips to the post. Look for McCarthy to find a winning spot for this five year old.
