Method Horse II – A Systematic Approach To Isolating a Contender

1. Draw a line through all scratched horses in the top section of the Digest race page.

2. Award 10 points to all horses with a COLUMN 4 score that is 10 points higher than the Race level shown in the heading for each race.

3. Note the top 3 high scores in COLUMN 6. Award 8 points for 1st (and ties). 5 points for 2nd (and ties); and 3 points for 3rd (and ties). Be sure to eliminate the scratched horses before awarding points.

4. If there is only one “F” (“Lone F”) in PER COLUMN 7, award 5 points.

5. The following Handicapping Factors in COLUMN 8 receive points:
HF 2 = 15 pts.
HF 15 = 8 pts.
HF 15a = 4 pts.
HF 20 = 4 pts.
HF 21* = 2 pts.
* – Assign no points for HF 21c, 21d or 21r.

6. Fractional Chart Order of Finish: (First line under each race table).
1st (and ties) = 10 pts.
2nd (and ties) = 6 pts.
3rd (and ties) = 3 pts.
“Too many unshowns” award no points.

If necessary, refer to the Fractional Time Comparisons page in the front of the Digest for the complete fractional chart order of finish to determine complete point totals.

7. In case of ties, split contenders in this method:

A. Prefer the horse with the highest ratings in Col. 6.

B. If still tied, prefer the high score in Col. 5.

C. If still tied, prefer the contender with the highest number in Col 15.

After tie breakers, the top two horses should be considered solid contenders with the first choice, of course deserving the strongest support. The final betting selection rests with
the individual but it is suggested that the novice player stick to the top selection. Although this method will produce a play in every race, advanced handicappers may wish to
improvise with additional rules (recency, jockey/trainer, price or weight restrictions, for example). Considerations of this sort will limit action somewhat but should also increase
long-term profits.
