Which Belmont Stakes 2024 horses are fast early? How about overall speed? Today’s Racing Digest has you covered with pace, speed, and performance ratings. Let’s dive right in.
Pace Ratings
Looking at the Digest Pace Ratings, Seize the Grey might have the early advantage. He attended quick fractions in the Pat Day Mile, wired the field in the Preakness, and landed the inside post in this race. He is probably going to show speed under Jaime Torres. Dornoch was not able to run his early-pressing race in the Kentucky Derby. He ran well on numerous occasions when he was part of the pace, and he should revert to speed tactics in the Belmont.
Final Time Ratings
Mindframe owns the best Final Time Ratings but he has only raced twice and has yet to run in a stakes race. He lacks seasoning but clearly has talent. Sierra Leone sports solid numbers and has the class to back it up.
FIRE Number
The FIRE Number is an overall performance rating based on speed throughout a race. Once again, Mindframe and Sierra Leone show the way. If you think one of those two horses will win the Belmont Stakes, it really comes down to preference. Do you want to take the lightly raced runner with upside, or the proven class?
