Sakura Blossom: Figures To be Covered Up More Next time and Save Something For Late

Four year old filly for Len Powell, who hadn’t been out since October, was entered in the 2nd allowance condition on Sunday at 9 furlongs on the turf. Off at 5/1 in a field of just six, she broke OK and then was taken in hand by J.J. and was last into the clubhouse turn, but just four off the leaders. Between the half mile pole and the three eighths pole, the jock made a huge move on her and in a matter of seconds went from last to first and had the lead at the 3/8 pole. The move was a bit premature though, as she couldn’t fight off a stretch runner in the lane and had to settle for 2nd, beaten two at the wire. But considering the 3.5 month layoff, this was a creditable race and sets her up nicely for her next start. She is graded stakes placed as a sophomore on this course and she will have no trouble knocking out this condition. She figures to be covered up more next time and save something for the lane.
