Navajo Warrior: Look for Yakteen to find a winning spot for this son of Candy Ride

Four year old gelding for Tim Yakteen, who had not been to the post since Halloween at Del Mar, tried the starter allowance race for non winners twice and those that have raced for a tag of $50,000 or less at 9 furlongs on the lawn. This was his 1st start on the grass in 7 trips to the post and despite breaking very awkwardly from the 9 hole and ending up last early, he really took to the lawn. Off at 8/1 in a field of 10 in the opener, Fresu didn’t rush him at any point early on and he relaxed nicely down the back side 8 or 9 lengths off the pace. Fresu asked him for run at the ¼ pole and he started mowing down horses from the extreme outside, got caught six wide into the lane, and then finished with good courage out in the middle of the course to miss by ¾ at the wire. He is normally much closer to the pace and the time off certainly did him some good in spite of the poor start. Look for Yakteen to find a winning spot for this son of Candy Ride as he is certainly good enough to knock out this condition.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Navajo Warrior was cabable of.  We expected that if Navajo Warrior gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Navajo Warrior performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Navajo Warrior last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Navajo Warrior next start.  If Navajo Warrior appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Navajo Warrior will dominate the race.
