R Heisman: Can Run Long or Short and Should Find Winning Spot Soon

Three year old gelding for Peter Miller tried the Cal Cup Derby for sophomores Saturday at a mile and a sixteenth on the main. Off as the 3/2 favorite in a field of 8, he broke running under Prat and was third into and out of the clubhouse turn just a length back of the leaders. He was 4th two back at the 3/8 pole down on the rail and was loaded turning for home. He just needed a seam to get through but one never developed until it was too late. Prat took him to the rail at the 1/8 pole but that hole closed quickly and he never really got a chance to run. Miller has lots of options with this one as Cal bred stakes don’t count against “open” allowance competition and he still has the first allowance condition available. He can run long or short so look for Miller to find a winning spot for him in the near future.
