Roll On Big Joe: Better Post and Shorter Trip Would Help

Four year old gelding for Bob Hess Jr. tried the second allowance condition on Sunday at six and a half on the main, 3 and up. He broke running under Rispoli and set the pace from the inside through fast fractions of 21.76 and 44.22 for the half. There were four across the track at the half mile pole and he was on the fence, but he gradually opened up a length and a half on the field at the ¼ pole. He still had the lead at the 1/8 pole but it was diminishing fast as the quick splits started to take its toll. He ended up third beaten two at the wire. He is good enough to win this condition as he is stakes placed in a Grade 2 at this track. A better post and a shorter trip would certainly help but he has won at a mile in breaking his maiden at Gulfstream. He is very sharp so look for Hess to find the appropriate race.
