Grateful My Love: Closed Nicely Over a Speed Favoring Surface

Two year old filly for Mike McCarthy made her debut in race six on Saturday, a maiden special weight for Cal breds at ¾ on the main. Off at 11/1 in a full field of 12, she broke poorly at the start, had no speed at all, and found herself 12 back after just two furlongs of racing. She stayed well back of the field until the top of the lane, then started picking off horses, and closed with a rush to get fifth, although well beaten at the wire by 7 lengths. Her works were pretty decent coming into this race and she closed nicely over a speed favoring surface. She is another who will probably do her best around two turns, but with a better start, she can sprint as well.
