In Theory: Trouble Getting By Leader With Slow Fractions Made Move to Win by length and half

Three year old filly for Bob Baffert made her 1st try on the turf in the fifth on Saturday in a 1st allowance condition at a mile and a sixteenth on the green. Off at 5/2 in a field of 12 runners, she broke well under J.J. and contested the early lead into the clubhouse turn. She settled in second down the back side just one length off the lead with pretty slow fractions of 24.40 and 48.95 for the half. J.J. asked her for run at the 3/8 pole but she had a difficult time getting by the leader with such slow fractions in toll. She finally kicked clear at the 1/16 pole and won off by a length and a half at the wire. All in all, a good race for this daughter of Mendelssohn who looks like she can be a stakes runner down the road. Baffert may try her in one next or she will have to face older for the second condition. Either way this was just her 4th career start and she looks to have a good future on the lawn.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe In Theory was cabable of.  We expected that if In Theory gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in In Theory performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in In Theory last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of In Theory next start.  If In Theory appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that In Theory will dominate the race.
