Saturday was the a big day for Belmont Stakes 2024 workouts, and likely favorite Sierra Leone showed the way with a half-mile breeze in company with Domestic Product. Chad Brown’s colt wore a new cage bit to help the rider have more control, and they hope the equipment change will get him out of his bad habit of lugging in.
In other Belmont Stakes news, Batten Down will not run at Saratoga on June 8. He is targeting the Ohio Derby at Thistledown on June 22. His stablemate Resilience might go in the Belmont if his final workout on Sunday goes well.
Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan had a solid breeze on Saturday and is poised to become the only runner to compete in all three Triple Crown Series races this year. His stablemate Thorpedo Anna has been entered in the Grade 1 Acorn at Saratoga on June 7.
All three of Todd Pletcher’s Belmont hopefuls breezed on Saturday. Unbeaten colt Mindframe and maiden Protective worked in company and the former was better on the gallop out. Peter Pan hero Antiquarian also went a half-mile in company.
