I don’t know if it was the soft turf course or the addition of blinkers, but this son of American Pharoah really woke up in a huge way on Sunday in a maiden special weight event at six and a half on the turf for older runners. Off at 12/1 in a field of 10 and breaking from the rail, he went right out to contend for the lead with an opening quarter in 24.03. He had never shown this type of speed before sprinting in 8 previous trips to the post. He put away the other speed at the top of the lane, opened up four by the 1/16 pole, and won under a hand ride while geared down the final 50 yards. He is actually better going two turns and I’m sure the O’Neill barn will run him in a starter race, non winners twice, which he is eligible for. Either short or long, he seems like a revitalized horse these days and can win right back under top turf rider Berrios.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Player B was cabable of. We expected that if Player B gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Player B performance figures. Use the performance figures earned in Player B last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Player B next start. If Player B appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Player B will dominate the race.
