Four year old colt for Phil D’Amato made his 2nd start this year and just the fifth of his career Saturday in a 1st level allowance race at ¾ on the turf for older runners. Off at 5/1 in a field of 7, he broke well from the rail slot and sat 2nd down the back side, just two off the speedy winner. He never did get any closer to the winner until deep stretch when he battled gamely for second, but losing that placing by a nose. His last two races have been on the dirt and he ran nowhere, but he is clearly a different horse on the turf with both of his victories on that surface. I doubt that D’Amato will ever try him again on the dirt. His dam was a multiple stakes winner and his sire, Sir Prancealot, has been red hot for the last year. Named for one of the best right handers of all time for the New York Mets, his next start will be his third off a 10 month layoff and D’Amato will find a winning spot for him.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Tom Seaver was cabable of. We expected that if Tom Seaver gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Tom Seaver performance figures. Use the performance figures earned in Tom Seaver last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Tom Seaver next start. If Tom Seaver appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Tom Seaver will dominate the race.
