Mr. Disrespectful: Valenzuela’s Gelding Crushes Field by Nine in Two-Turn Debut; Smiling Tiger Son Rapidly Improving

For the 2nd consecutive race, this 5 year old gelding for Martin Valenzuela makes our Horses to Watch list. In his 8th career start after 7 straight sprints, they finally tried him two turns on Saturday at a flat mile on the main in a non winners twice starter allowance for those who had raced for $50K or less in their career. Off as the 6/5 choice with his 3rd start off a 16 month layoff, he went right to the front under Berrios, set all of the splits with fractions of 24.25 and 48.19 and wired the field to win by 9 at the wire, geared down the final sixteenth. Yes, he only beat three horses today and the splits were moderate and he had it all his own way. But the way he did it was visually impressive and this Cal bred son of Smiling Tiger is on the improve.
