Mr. Disrespectful: Valenzuela Gelding Fires Big Late Rally; Set for Peak Effort Third Off Long Layoff

Five year old gelding for Martin Valenzuela made his 2nd start off a 16 month layoff and ran a much improved race in this starter allowance, non winners twice at ¾ on the main. Off at 8/1 in a field of six, he broke OK under Pereira and was three back at the half mile pole running in 4th down the back side. He fell back to five at the ¼ pole but then started to roll at the top of the lane. The speed was tiring in front of him and he came up a half length short at the wire, but still put in a good run to get second and it was five back to the third horse. His next start will be his 3rd off a long layoff, often a horse’s best performance. He’s a Cal bred so he can run in the 1st Cal bred allowance or come back in this starter, non winners twice. Either way he is set for a top performance for a barn that won with 16% of their starters in 2024.
