First Peace: Rallied Late In Stretch and Can Get a Mile If Stretched Out

Four year old colt for Mark Glatt was entered in the finale on Sunday, the Grade 3 Daytona stakes down the hill for older runners. Bet down to the 7/5 favorite late off a 4/1 morning line, he had a miserable trip and it wasn’t one of Mike Smith’s better rides. A horse that always runs near the pace sprinting, he broke a step slow, then was rushed up a bit to get back into the race, checked when Smith ran him up on a horse’s heels, then got shuffled further back, and found himself five lengths back of the lonely leader, who went on and wired the field. In spite of the poor beginning, he rallied late in the stretch and only needed one more jump at the wire to win the race. With the late scratch of speedster Air Force Red and the poor start of First Peace, Mucho Del Oro found himself alone on the lead and wired the field at 11/1, but First Peace was BEST today. This colt can get a mile and maybe Glatt will stretch him out at Del Mar or take him on the road. This son of Kentucky bred Funtastic is worth following.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe First Peace was cabable of.  We expected that if First Peace gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in First Peace performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in First Peace last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of First Peace next start.  If First Peace appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that First Peace will dominate the race.
