Connie Swingle: Stalked The Leader To Kick In High Gear to Win By 3

Five year old mare for Phil D’Amato, away from the races for 22 months, was entered in the Daisycutter Handicap at 5/8 on the lawn Saturday. Off at 9/2 in a field of 8, she broke running under Kyle Frey and sat 2nd down the back side just 2 lengths back of the elusive leader. When that one started to tire at the top of the lane, she kicked it into high gear and sailed right on by at the 1/16 pole to win going away by three at the wire. It was a strong training performance by D’Amato to have her ready off such a long layoff. She has now won five times on the turf from six tries and the other race was a close second. Because she is a Cal bred, they have all kinds of options with this one. She is a runner.
