Bro Bro: O’Neill’s Bro Bro Endures Rough Trip; Ready to Bounce Back Next Out with Clear Sailing

Three year old gelding for Doug O’Neill made start #2 on Friday in a 1st condition allowance race for Cal breds at 5/8 on the turf for sophomores. Off as the 4/5 choice in a field of 7 off an impressive maiden debut victory, he broke OK and was 4th down the back side just three off the leaders. Gutierrez took him to the fence at the 3/8 pole and stayed there the rest of the race, hoping for a seam somewhere in the stretch. The hole did come at the 1/8 pole and just as he was going through that hole, he was slammed sideways by the 4 horse coming over from right handed whipping. He lost his momentum momentarily, recovered fairly quickly, but the damage had been done. He was third at the wire beaten two. I’m not sure it cost him the win because the outside lanes on the turf were much better anyways and the winner had clear sailing, but he would have been right there at the wire. Bro Bro is good enough to beat this kind and six furlongs works better for him than five.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Bro Bro was cabable of.  We expected that if Bro Bro gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Bro Bro performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Bro Bro last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Bro Bro next start.  If Bro Bro appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Bro Bro will dominate the race.
