American Admiral: Yakteen’s Gelding Endures Brutal Wide Trip; Set for Redemption Next Out

There are wide trips in this game and then there are some VERY WIDE trips and this 7 year old gelding for Tim Yakteen raced a mile and a sixteenth on the main track Friday while everyone else got to race a flat mile. Off at 2/1 in a field of 7 in this 2nd condition allowance race with an option of $100,000 price tag, he broke OK from the 7 hole under Kimura but had no shot at getting over and thereby got caught six wide into the clubhouse turn. Kimura kept him on the outside all the way down the back side and he was still six wide. Turning for home, he got fanned out even further and was 7 wide at the top of the stretch. He wasn’t lugging out but just a victim of circumstances. He stayed six wide all the way down the lane, finished 4th, but was only beaten 3 at the wire. I have to believe he was best on this day as he had worked lights out off a 60 day break. He was well meant today going off at 2/1 from a M/L of 4/1. Yakteen is a smart trainer and will find a winning spot for this one as he is in very good form.
