Hardtobebetternow: Plenty of Options Moving Forward as Cal Bred for Top Barn

Two year old gelding for Tim Yakteen made his debut on Sunday in a maiden special weight event at a mile on the turf for Cal breds. Off at 7/1 in a field of just five, he was pretty much void of early speed and was 4th down the back side, five back of the leaders. The fractions were slow for this course in 23.85 and 49.22 for the half and the leader was on a “lonely” lead. Kimura got him running at the 3/8 pole, swing four wide to the outside at the top of the lane, and finished with good courage to get second beaten two at the wire. It’s hard to win your debut going two turns and even harder to close into such a slow pace, so this race was very encouraging for this son of the good sire Hard Spun. He will have plenty of options moving forward as a Cal bred and should be a soon winner for a top barn.
