Cheeky Gal: Bred To Go Long But Found a Home on Turf

Two year old filly for Peter Miller made her 4th career start but 1st ever on the lawn on Friday in a 1st allowance condition at 5/8 on the sod. Off at 17/1 under Fresu and the longest price in the six horse field, she bobbled at the start and was away last. The jock started to move her at the 3/8 pole and she was up into contention by the ¼ pole, and hooked the leader by the 1/8 pole. She battled gamely down the lane from the outside but the odds on favorite had another gear and held her safe to win by a neck at the wire. It was a sterling effort by this daughter of Maximus Mischief and Miller will do everything possible to get another turf race into her before the end of this meet. She is bred to run long as well and has found a home on the turf. She’s a soon winner for a barn that always does well at Del Mar.
